Welcome to the New Portage North Website
After all of these years, and all the phone calls mid-Winter asking if I am still guiding, I decided it was time to put this together.
We are really excited to provide an easy way to keep old friends updated, as well as welcome some new friends to the North woods, and the fun and adventure that canoe travel/ fishing has to offer.
This year, I have had a couple weeks open up, so there are still a few weeks available.
Looking forward to next Summer, Tobi and I have been doing a lot of fly fishing lately, and we are hooked! I would like to find some Hardy Fly-fisherman for a couple of weeks in June, to take advantage of the incredible smallmouth fishing. Fly-Fishing out of a canoe can seem a little awkward at first, but catching a fighting Smallmouth or Northern Pike out of a canoe is just flat out fun! And yes, I have seen Fly-fisherman out fish the spin/bait caster.
July sees the walleye fishing come on strong, with the stabilizing weather. Great time to set up a base camp and settle in to your cozy camp for a week of stalking the walleye, the prize of the border lakes! And if you get tired of bringing in the walleye, you can’t forget the lake trout, Northern and smallmouth.
Anybody interested in a travel trip should think Late August to mid-Sept. Warm days cool nights, reduced bug pressure, just about the perfect time for a trip. Big water fishing can slow a little bit, great time to hit some No Name Lakes!
There are only so many weeks in the season, so contact us early to see what weeks are open.
Feel free to send any photos from past trips. I know there are some good ones out there that I haven’t seen.
Check back to see how this year's trips are going. I will be updating when I get out of the woods.
Hope to see you on the water soon,
Chuck & Tobi
